S ostrva su spašene 23 osobe. Pet ih je preminulo od zadobivenih povreda, a 18 se nalazi u bolnici. Još uvijek se nestalima smatra više od 20 osoba.
Oko vulkana je uspostavljena zona neletenja.
23 osobe, od kojih su neki vjerovatno turisti s kruzera Ovation of the Seas, spašene su s Bijelog ostrva, na kojem je došlo do erupcije vulkana, objavila je policija. Ranije se mislilo da je u blizini bilo stotinjak ljudi, no policija je procijenila da je zapravo na ostrvu bilo pedesetak ljudi od kojih se za polovinu još ne zna gdje su.
